About the Grapevine

The AA Grapevine is the international journal of Alcoholics Anonymous. Written, edited, illustrated and read by AA members and others interested in the AA program of recovery from alcoholism, the Grapevine is a lifeline linking one alcoholic to another.

Committee Functions

  • To develop awareness of the many benefits that can be derived through the Grapevine and La Viña (Spanish version) subscriptions.
  • Encourages individuals and groups to subscribe to “our meeting in Print”.
  • Encourages our Members to contribute articles, photographs, illustrations and cartoons for publication.
  • Provides a display at the Area quarterlies and assemblies and other AA events as requested, to inform Members of the Grapevine and other items available.
  • Keeps Area 79 informed of ongoing Grapevine activities.
  • Have Members become familiar with the AA Grapevine web site (www.aagrapevine.org).
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of this webpage.

CHAIR

Job Description

The Grapevine Chair is an appointed position on the Area Service Committee.

Duties

  • Create enthusiasm for the Grapevine and La Viña in our area.
  • Keep the area informed of ongoing Grapevine activities.
  • Encourage individuals and groups to subscribe to the Grapevine.
  • Encourage becoming familiar with the A.A. Grapevine website, including Story Archive,
    Audio GV and online subscriptions.
  • Ongoing communication with the Grapevine standing committee as well as with the
    registered Grapevine district chairs.
  • Encourage members to contribute articles, photographs, illustrations and cartoons for
    publication.
  • Provide a display at area quarterlies and assemblies and other A.A. events as requested.
  • Keep an inventory of current Grapevine items available for sale at quarterlies and
    assemblies.
  • Prepare when necessary Grapevine kits for travel assignments for ASC members.
  • Coordinate the Area 79 Grapevine subscription and distribute copies of the magazine to
    the area’s standing service committees as applicable.
  • Is the “go-to person” if any group or member has a problem with a subscription or other
    issues concerning the Grapevine.
  • Duties common to all ASC members can be found on the ASC page.

For the past several terms, the Grapevine chair position has been appointed to the alternate chair.
(There is a separate job description for that position.) Having one person cover both assignments
is a decision of the Area 79 chair, and may vary from term to term.

All GSR’s, DCM’s, DCC’s, and their alternates, as well as members of the ASC have a login. If you are in one of these roles and do not have yours, make sure you are registered and contact the website chair.
