The Area 79 Website Committee

Committee Purpose

The purposes of the Area 79 website are:

  • To provide A.A. members, the still suffering alcoholic and the general public with:
  • general information about Area 79 BC/Yukon;
  • general information about Alcoholics Anonymous.
  • To provide A.A. members with information about General Service in Area 79.
  • To provide storage of and appropriate access to Area 79 materials such as minutes, reports, workshops, archival information, shared experience, Grassroots, etc.
  • To provide contact information for our trusted servants involved in General Service in Area 79.
  • To serve as a communication tool for those involved in General Service within Area 79 by providing information about current Area service activities and business. When appropriate, information will be located on a secure, password-protected section of the website.

Job Description

Website Committee Chair

The website committee chair is the conduit between the web team volunteers and the rest of the fellowship. It is an appointed position on the Area Service Committee (ASC).

Duties

  • Work closely with the web team on matters relating to the Area 79 website.
  • Review submissions for the events page for Tradition and anonymity breaks.
  • Receive all corrections and additions for the area “Find a Meeting” list and ensure they are submitted per “To Post a Meeting” guidelines before posting.
  • Ensure DCM’s are cc’d on all communications regarding their Districts.
  • Follow up to ensure that all postings have been completed within three days.
  • Daily access to a computer and an email service is necessary to maintaining communication with the web team volunteers, the Area Service Committee (ASC) and the members of Area 79.
  • Ensure the blue board is kept updated and current.
  • Coordinate and chair all web team meetings.
  • Coordinate and chair District Website Chair meetings in between Quarterlies and Assemblies, to encourage sharing experience and working together. Scheduling dependent on District Website Chairs.
  • Receive concerns and/or questions from the web team and report to ASC.
  • Ensure that all updated and approved service documents are posted on the website.
  • Contact and welcome new DCMs, providing trusted-servant login and password information.
  • Review draft projects from other web team volunteers and provide feedback.
  • Arrange and conduct interviews with prospective web team volunteers and notify applicants of the outcome. Have the selection of the new web team volunteer ratified by the ASC.
  • Coordinate with developer.  Maintain communication regularly and coordinate compensation.
  • Duties common to all ASC members available on the ASC page.

Qualifications

  • Strong organizational abilities.
  • Understand what is and what is not A.A. or A.A.-related material.
  • Time: Varies depending on projects in progress — can be up to two hours a day at peak periods.

The web team carries out routine maintenance of the website and implements the changes and additions requested by the Website Committee. Web Volunteer members of the web team are appointed by the Website Chair and ratified by the ASC.
