The Area 79 Pre-Conference Assembly

The 75th General Service Conference is being held in Manhattan, NY, April 27-May 3, 2025.

In Area 79 we hold a Pre-Conference Assembly. Each year in April, all the General Service Representatives and District Committee Members meet to help inform and prepare our Delegate for the annual General Service Conference Meeting in New York.

“At this meeting, the Delegate can receive an informed conscience based on discussion with those present regarding the agenda items for the General Service Conference” –Area 79 GSR Handbook page 13.

Your Area Service Committee prepares a special summary document. This document condenses the background material for each agenda item, helping to simplify the process for you. However, the full Conference background material remains available if you wish to review it in detail.

2025 Pre-Conference Checklist is now available here

How We Collect Input in Area 79 for our Delegate

What are the suggested next steps?

1) Prepare Your Group/District

Explain that the Pre-Conference process (and 75th General Service Conference), is approaching. Let your group/district know that you have been pre-assigned to a committee. As a responsible GSR or DCM, your role is to keep the group informed about what is happening in A.A. as a whole and to gather their input on the agenda items.

Facilitate a discussion on when the group would like to review the agenda items. Some groups incorporate a brief discussion into their business meetings, while others prefer to hold a separate session. Come prepared with a few possible dates to suggest.

Emphasize the importance of reviewing and discussing the agenda items assigned to your DCM’s committee (if time permits), as these discussions help shape our collective area conscience.

2) Access the Area 79 Summary & Background Material

Retrieve the summary and background material (below) for the committee you’ve been assigned.

Important Reminder from our Panel 75 Delegate: Background material remains CONFIDENTIAL FOR A.A. MEMBERS ONLY and must not be posted on public websites. However, it may be shared via email or cloud service with interested A.A. members, provided the confidentiality disclaimer is included.

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to your DCM or your Area Service Committee Chairperson.

GENERAL

SERVICE

CONFERENCE

The Annual Meeting

While the General Service Conference operates all year round, the annual meeting, usually held in April, is the culmination of the year’s activities, the time when the collective group conscience of U.S./ Canada A.A. comes together to take actions that will guide the groups in the years that follow.

LAST

YEAR'S

From the G.S.C.

Our Area 79 delegate attends the General Service Conference (GSC) held in New York each year in late April/early May. Following the Conference, the delegate (or alternate delegate) is available to give their Conference Report to the fellowship in BC/Yukon at events to which they have been invited to do so.

The reports from the GSC as well as from our Delegate can be found in the Service Library.

The 74th (2024) Conference Report can be found here on aa.org

All GSR’s, DCM’s, DCC’s, and their alternates, as well as members of the ASC have a login. If you are in one of these roles and do not have yours, make sure you are registered and contact the website chair.

ELECTIONS AND

APPOINTMENTS

Area Officers

Fourteen (14) Area Officers are chosen, every second year, to serve 2-year terms on the Area Service Committee (ASC) . Seven of these are elected, in even numbered years, at the September Assembly of the full Area 79 Committee. Seven are appointed by the Selection Committee, following the elections, to sit as chairs of designated Area standing committees.

It is strongly suggested that the outgoing (not the incoming) GSRs and DCMs be available to vote at the Election Assembly in order to assure a more informed election.

To apply for an appointed position in Area 79, please email your resume to resumes@bcyukonaa.org
