THE DISTRICTS AND INTERGROUPS

Area 79 is divided into 47 Districts, some of those Districts form an Intergroup which serves to help the groups in that district cooperate locally where necessary. There are 3 Intergroups in Area 79 that cover multiple districts, they are: Greater Vancouver Intergroup Society, Greater Victoria Intergroup Society, and Mid-Island Intergroup.

Groups in a District or Intergroup will often set up a local help-line or a website to assist individuals in their community find a meeting, or to help members of the public (non-alcoholics) or professionals find resources to assist them with helping a loved one, client, or patient.

Click on a District to view information or click on the    icon in the top left corner to view a list of Districts. You can use the navigation controls in the bottom left corner of the map to zoom in and out.

A list of Districts, Intergroups and their contact is also available at the bottom of this page.

ABOUT

GROUPS &

DISTRICTS

Groups often elect representatives to their respective Intergroup as well as a General Service Representative (GSR) who votes on their behalf in their District and at Area 79.

The GSRs also elect a District Committee Member (DCM) who carries the collective conscience of the District to Area 79 Quarterlies and Assemblies, and participates in committee work that is facilitated by the Area Service Committee Chairs.

Concept 1 of our 12 Concepts for World Service states:
“Final responsibility and ultimate authority for A.A. world services should always reside in the collective conscience of our whole Fellowship.”

ELECTIONS AND

APPOINTMENTS

Area Officers

Fourteen (14) Area Officers are chosen, every second year, to serve 2-year terms on the Area Service Committee (ASC) . Seven of these are elected, in even numbered years, at the September Assembly of the full Area 79 Committee. Seven are appointed by the Selection Committee, following the elections, to sit as chairs of designated Area standing committees.

It is strongly suggested that the outgoing (not the incoming) GSRs and DCMs be available to vote at the Election Assembly in order to assure a more informed election.

To apply for an appointed position in Area 79, please email your resume to resumes@bcyukonaa.org
